There seems to be two kinds of Halloween-goers: Those who take their costume very seriously and started planning last year on November 1st, and those who spend October 30th scouring the picked-through racks at the local Party City for a makeshift outfit. At Real Beauty, we tend to ebb on the latter, so we're all for an easy costume idea that takes just minutes to pull together using only foundation, eyeliner, mascara, pink lipstick, and a pink blush. We turned to Paul Thompson, Director of Education at Make-up Designory, a leading makeup school in New York City, to take us through a simple cat makeup how-to. With just an even coat of foundation, a strong winged eyeliner, and a sweet pink nose, all you'll have to add is a sexy black getup and maybe a headband with cat ears.
First, Thompson loaded up our model Elyse's eyelashes with black mascara. Since the prominent cat-eye effect is the focal point of the look, Thompson wanted to ensure that it would be dramatic, but still have a ton of staying power. "Gel liner could end up flaking, so we used a cake liner because of the formula's versatility and ability to stay put," says Thompson. Using a Make-up Designory Angled Liner Brush he wet the bristles before dipping it into Make-up Designory Cake Eyeliner in Black. The trick to bold liner is to draw it on in short, even strokes focusing on one area at a time, then repeating on the opposite eye. That way, you can go back and forth on perfecting it, rather than trying to copy the whole look all at once while trying to get identical results. Watch the how to below:
Remember the other day when I showed you the new Make-up Designory kit called Love at First Sight? I've been playing with it a bit and I have some swatches to show you, and a review. Overall, I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be. The pictures in the press release looked lovely, but when I got the kit in the mail I misjudged the lipgloss and underestimated some of the shadows.
